G.P. Out of Hours services provide family doctor care for people with urgent medical problems late in the evening and at weekends/ public holidays. The HSE.ie online service finder lists contact details and opening hours for Out of Hours Services nationwide.
What happens when you contact the G.P. Out of Hours service?
A specially trained person will answer your call. He or she will ask you to describe your concern and will ask for personal details such as your name, phone number, address and date of birth. This information will be passed to a G.P.
You will then be given an appointment to see your nearest Out of Hours G.P. or you will be given advice over the phone. In some areas, the G.P. will first call you back to:
Offer immediate medical advice over the telephone.
Ask you to attend the nearest Treatment Centre for further examination and treatment.
Visit you in your own home.
